To help community groups and local collectives take steps towards starting their own social enterprise, The Van Diemen Project has developed the Social Enterprise Toolbox

The toolbox has a range of resources including short informative videos, a website with outlines of key concepts and helpful tools as well as activity cards that help you run sessions for your group or organisation – putting you in the driving seat to turn that burning passion into a social enterprise that makes impact with a strong business foundation.

Everything is self guided, with a focus on empowering you and your community to launch your social enterprise.

What Is In The Toolbox?

In every community, there are groups that are leading change, individuals driving impact and organisations that are fighting for change in their area. The Social Enterprise Toolbox provides these groups with a series of resources that will help you turn this passion into a meaningful enterprise that customers will buy from to support the long term impact that you want to make. In every community, there are groups that are leading change, individuals driving impact and organisations that are fighting for change in their area. The Social Enterprise Toolbox provides these groups with a series of resources that will help you turn this passion into a meaningful enterprise that customers will buy from to support the long term impact that you want to make.

The Social Enterprise Toolbox has twelve modules, taking a step by step process to help community organisations and collectives to learn more about what it takes to start a social enterprise, build a sustainable business model, take care of themselves as they get it going and how to make sure customers love the social enterprise too. These modules are designed to be completed on a regular basis to help maintain momentum towards starting your own social enterprise, and include;

  • What a social enterprise is and how to focus on your area of impact.
  • Considerations for the governance structure of the social enterprise.
  • Planning for strategic growth over time while still getting things started.
  • Learning what customers want through research.
  • Building your marketing strategy and financial budgets.
  • Testing the social enterprise to learn what customers like.
  • Building partnerships to maximise impact.
  • Tips for productivity as well as taking care of yourself.
  • Presenting your idea to others.
  • Getting your first customers.

Importantly, the whole Social Enterprise Toolbox is designed that you can review the videos, website and activity cards to take your group through the process – you don’t need to be an expert social entrepreneur, business champion or have a lot of background knowledge to use the resources. As long as you have a passion to support your local community and want to see it happen in a sustained fashion, then you will learn a lot through the resources provided and take leaps towards starting your own social enterprise.

With international experience and exposure in social enterprise, community impact and making great things happen, The Van Diemen Project is proud to share the Social Enterprise Toolbox with the wider community to look at how social entrepreneurship can lead to meaningful change. And if you want to see it happen in your organisation, simply register below and let’s get started today.
